Area 4 summer meeting
The summer meeting was held at Goldsborough, Harrogate on the 25th July. I was also asked to attend an additional meeting beforehand regarding the format of the Area 4 Events. We discussed the running of the events to make them more fun and encouraging for both competitors and helpers. Currently Ackworth run the winter dressage and East Yorkshire the winter SJ, these events run well so the feeling is that the way forward is that clubs should be involved more in one event rather than all events. I have raised several complaints throughout the year about the way in which helpers are treated, this was supported and hopefully will be reformed next year. Watch this space!!
During the main meeting the major points that were raised included the retirement of Nicky Lyons as Area 4 Secretary. The launch of the combined training event with the finals being held at the Festival of the Horse was a success this year and will run again next year. However, it will be a team event rather than individual and will be SJ/dressage rather than style jumping/riding tests. Qualifiers for this will take place at the Winter SJ event. The planning for the first Area 4 Summer Camp is well under way and currently has 35 members signed up. It will take place at Somerford Park in September. Area 4 are also planning on running some equitation assessment days with Margot Tiffany. There are four levels of qualifications. Level one and two we can run within the club, level three area 4 will provide training but assessment occurs within club and level four area 4 will run the training and assessment.
